Abstract Conclusions of this criteria document, translation of a report finalized in December 1988: the main effects of phthalodinitrile (o-PDN) are on the central nervous system. The isomers isophthalodinitrile (m-PDN) and terephthalodinitrile (p-PDN) appear to be less toxic than o-PDN. Cases of acute human intoxication have been reported following dust inhalation and skin absorption; symptoms may be delayed for up to 48 hours after exposure. Reported effects include skin and mucous membrane irritation, nausea, unconsciousness and epileptoid convulsions.
