Abstract These three documents describe the Canadian federal policy for the management of toxic substances in the environment. The key objectives of the policy are described and methods of implementation and accountability are outlined. Persistence and bioaccumulation criteria for the identification of substances targeted for virtual elimination from the environment are presented along with a report on public consultations concerning the policy.
