Title Repetitive strain in nonrepetitive work - A case study
Bibliographic information 1995, Vol.1, No.1, p.42-51. Illus. 30 ref.
Abstract A study was made of the movements and forces involved in a factory job in which a woman worker developed epicondylitis. Although tasks were extremely varied, certain movements at risk for epicondylitis were repeated many times, in particular the turning of valves. Strain on the elbow was particularly intense for the woman worker because of the design of the workplace. Although it cannot be concluded that the worker's epicondylitis was due to her job, results suggest that equipment and worksites should be adapted to a wider range of potential worker sizes. Issues concerning the definition of repetitive strain in epidemiologic studies are discussed.
