||Hexachlorobenzene has been known to cause mass intoxication following food contamination. Intoxication is manifested by the occurrence of porphyria cutanea tarda and by enlargement of the liver, thyroid gland and lymph nodes and porphyrinuria; prolonged effects of intoxication may be evident many years after exposure.
