Abstract Irritation of the skin and eyes and in some instances eczema have been described on direct exposure to propylene oxide; skin sensitization has also been reported. Human intoxication has been observed after 10 minutes exposure at 1500ppm. Chromosome aberrations have been reported in some workers exposed to propylene oxide and other substances. Propylene oxide is carcinogenic in experimental animals.
