||The health status of an ambulance service
||July 1994, Vol.44, No.3, p.137-140. 23 ref.
||The health status of 93 male ambulance personnel in Belfast, United Kingdom was evaluated; risk factors for coronary heart disease were assessed. Blood pressure values were significantly higher than in a comparable study of the local general population; the incidence of self-reported smoking was also higher. The majority of body mass indices were above the acceptable range and serum cholesterol levels were raised in 52% of personnel. Overall, 83% of men over 40 and 49% of younger participants had two or more major coronary risk factors. Results suggest an urgent need for strategies to reduce overall risk.
