Title The zero accident approach at British Steel, Teesside works
Bibliographic information June 1993, No.111, p.5-11. Illus.
Abstract The potential hazards within an integrated steelworks are outlined and the development of an accident prevention programme is described. Total Quality was adopted as the driving force for changing attitude and culture. The new approach to accident prevention was set within four basic parameters (positive safety, plant level planning, supervisory focus, utilization of social processes) which were then translated into a 10 point plan for improvement. The implementation of the plan is described along with examples of achievements. A table shows overall reduction in all injuries and in lost-time injuries.
