Title Cardiovascular effects of impulse noise, road traffic noise and intermittent pink noise at LAeq=75dB, as a function of sex, age and level of anxiety: A comparative study
Bibliographic information 1992, Vol.63, No.7, p.477-493. Illus. 34 ref.
Abstract The first of these two articles describes a study to compare the effects of pile-driver noise, gunfire noise, road traffic noise and intermittent pink noise on the heart rate of some 120 subjects. During exposure to noise, the overall heart rate increased in nearly all subjects, with men showing greater increases than women. The second article describes the effects of the same types of noise on digital pulse level and blood pressure. The results of both studies are discussed in relation to the age, sex and anxiety characteristics of the subjects.
