Abstract Methyl parathion is a highly toxic organophosphorus ester insecticide. Overexposure through skin contact or inhalation during manufacture or use may cause severe or fatal poisoning; signs and symptoms are those characteristic of systemic poisoning by cholinesterase-inhibiting organophosphorus compounds and may include effects on the central nervous system. Methyl parathion formulations are readily absorbed; hazardous exposures may occur without warning. It is not possible to evaluate the effects of long-term exposure to methyl parathion. Detailed summaries in French and Spanish.
