Title The role of ground level oxygen in the treatment of altitude chamber decompression sickness
Bibliographic information Dec. 1992, Vol.63, No.12, p.1102-1105. 12 ref.
Abstract Data were collected on the use of ground-level oxygen in the treatment of altitude chamber decompression sickness among US Air Force personnel during 1989-91. Data included age, sex, time of symptom development, type of initial treatment and response to ground-level oxygen administration. Of the 175 cases treated with ground-level oxygen, 40 failed to resolve and were treated with compression therapy. The remaining 135 all resolved with ground-level oxygen, obviating the need for hyperbaric oxygenation. Factors associated with a favourable response to this type of treatment are discussed.
