Abstract This report is one of a series concerning fire resistance of offshore structures and considers various types of passive and active fire protection systems. List of definitions and abbreviations. The philosophy of design of passive fire protection is outlined along with a list of commercially available fire protection products (intumescents, spray coatings, fire seals, rigid and flexible insulation, enclosures and casings and fire walls). Current active fire protection design is described along with alternative fire protection systems. List of definitions and abbreviations.
