Abstract This report is one of a series concerning blast resistance of offshore structures. A review is presented of the data available on the mechanisms by which missiles could be generated following an incident on an offshore platform. The data relate to primary missiles generated by failure of a pressure vessel or rotating machinery and secondary objects created by the blast wind. Test facilities available at various establishment are also described. Formulae for evaluating the resistance of various targets to missile impact are reviewed and compared with test results.
