Abstract This report is one of a series concerning fire loading on offshore structures. A review is presented of current knowledge on the characteristics and hazards produced by hydrocarbon fires in offshore structures where there are degrees of confinement and presence of obstructions, and the ability to predict fire behaviour for hazard assessment and fire engineering. Specific predictive models are reviewed and a survey of computer models for fire and smoke is included. The report should be read with that on open fires (OTI 92 596, CIS 93-984).
