Abstract In 1992, the French Higher Council for the Prevention of Occupational Risks engaged in seven principal activities: ensuring the implementation of Act No.91-1414 modifying the Labour Code and the Public Health Code; application of FACT funds to research projects; concentration on priority research areas (construction, chemical hazards, workers in an unusual situation, particularly employees of subcontractors); provision of support to external activities of the Ministry of Labour and co-ordination of the activities of various OSH organisations and specialists; introduction into French law of EEC directives; occupational medicine activities; continuation of activities from previous years (an "observatory" of occupational hazards; updating of the schedule of occupational diseases).
