Abstract This interim report presents the findings of an investigation into the selection, training and assessment of Offshore Installation Managers (OIMs) with particular reference to their ability to take command in an offshore emergency. A set of 26 recommendations were made divided into five sections: selection criteria, selection methods, emergency command training, the use of simulated emergencies and formal competence assessment procedures.
