Title Hazard assessment of floating chemicals after an accidental spill at sea
Bibliographic information European Chemical Industry Ecology and Toxicology Centre, 250 Avenue Louise (Bte. 63), 1050 Bruxelles, Belgium, July 1990. 55p. Illus. 37 ref.
Abstract A classification system has been developed for hazard identification of compounds transported in bulk by sea. Assessment of the hazard resulting from an accidental spill requires data on both toxicity and environmental exposure concentrations of the spilled product. Procedures for acute toxicity testing are described along with methods for the assessment of environmental concentrations of the spilled product. A computer model called CHEMSPIL is described which may be used to predict the exposure resulting from an accidental spill of a poorly water soluble, volatile and low-density product under calm sea conditions.
