Abstract Report of a study on the effectiveness of the intervention process by the Dutch Labour Inspectorate. The aim of this study is to develop methods for assessing the working procedures of the Labour Inspectorate, in order to enable it in the future to determine the effectiveness of its activities. In this report the procedures and the results of inspections in the metal products industry are described for three districts of the Labour Inspectorate. The results do not allow the development of a single protocol. However, a number of tools could be established that might assist in a systematic and uniform assessment of the intervention processes. Examples of questionnaire surveys used in the evaluation process are included in the appendix.
