Abstract This document contains the advice of the National Radiological Protection Board in response to guidelines recommended by the International Non-Ionising Radiation Committee (INIRC) on limiting exposures to electromagnetic fields in the frequency range 100kHz to 300GHz. The Board advises that, with certain additions and modifications, the basic limitations recommended by the INIRC for protection against the thermal effects of the absorption of electromagnetic energy and the possibilities of electric shock and burn should be adopted. There is at present insufficient data to make an assessment of any potential health risk with regard to athermal effects of electromagnetic fields.
