||Translation into English of the Regulations originally abstracted as CIS 83-1823. They became effective on 1 Jan. 1991 and apply to the large-scale handling of dangerous or hazardous chemicals, corresponding on the whole to EEC Council Directive 82/501/EEC "on the major-accident hazards of certain industrial activities" (see CIS 83-889). Contents: general stipulations (the employer must carry out a risk analysis of the activity concerned and he must take steps to prevent major accidents and limit their consequences), special documentation for the checking and maintenance of equipment and for particularly hazardous activities (those involving more than a specified quantity of ca. 200 enumerated substances/groups of substances) and the drawing up of an emergency plan in case of a major accident.
