Title Criteria for a recommended standard - Occupational exposure to ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, and their acetates
Bibliographic information National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Robert A. Taft Laboratories, 4676 Columbia Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45226, USA, Sept. 1991. 293p. Bibl.ref.
Abstract The principal health effects documented in humans exposed to ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether and their acetates involve the blood, the central nervous and hematopoietic systems, the liver and the kidneys. The compounds are readily absorbed through the skin. Only limited direct evidence indicates that exposure causes adverse reproductive effects in humans, although animal experiments provide strong evidence of adverse reproductive and developmental effects. Recommended exposure limits are given along with methods for worker protection. Appendices include methods for sampling and analysis and a list of other glycol ethers.
