Abstract General report prepared by the ILO as a working paper for the Second Session of its Food and Drink Industries Committee. As regards occupational safety and health, this report analyses the experience of 45 countries concerning new hazards which have been identified following the introduction of new technologies in the food and drink industries. Other topics covered: major causes of occupational accidents; statistics on the number of occupational diseases and accidents, and legislation on occupational safety and health in the food and drink industries which has been enacted since 1984. Special attention is given to the action taken by the ILO in the framework of the International Programme for the Improvement of Working Conditions and Environment (PIACT).
