Abstract The French Labour Code makes it compulsory to have physical nuisances and mechanical hazards measured and monitored by a government-approved body when so instructed by the Labour Inspectorate. The rule applies to lifting apparatus, noise, lighting, electrical plant, machines and devices, and ionising radiation. A listing of the regulations in force is followed by a list of all government-approved organisations at the time of publication, classified geographically by French administrative division (département).
