Title DNA and protein adducts: Evaluation of their use in exposure monitoring and risk assessment
Bibliographic information European Chemical Industry Ecology and Toxicology Centre, Avenue Louise 250, Boţte 63, 1050 Bruxelles, Belgium, Oct. 1989. 89p. Illus. ca. 280 ref.
Abstract Contents of this monograph: principles, fundamental assumptions and ethical considerations; mechanisms (adduct formation, reaction of chemicals with DNA and proteins, DNA adducts and biological effects); methods for detecting adducts, and comparisons of sensitivity, cost and time; DNA and protein adducts in animals and in man; evaluation of DNA and/or protein adducts as measures for exposure and for risk assessment; recommendations for further research; glossary. These techniques are very promising for measurement of low levels of human exposure to genotoxic chemicals, but cannot be used confidently to predict health risk.
Descriptors (primary) toxic substances; determination in biological matter; exposure evaluation; hazard evaluation
Descriptors (secondary) proteins; haemoglobin; carcinogenicity tests; evaluation of technique; glossary; DNA
