Abstract Contents of this guidance note: preparing a radiation emergency plan (plan development, management support and functions of individuals); preparing emergency plan implementing procedures (emergency facilities, supplies and equipment, personnel, maintaining emergency preparedness); classification of radiation emergencies (sources of radiation, associated hazards, emergency classification system); practical considerations in handling an emergency (personnel notification, emergency response, recovery and restoration); implementation and evaluation of the plan. Appendices provide sample plans for an industrial research facility and a medical facility along with emergency classification examples.
