Abstract This training guide presents methods for the safe handling of sharps. Many of the recommendations have not been tested for effectiveness; most are based on logic and common sense, rather than scientific evaluation. Issues covered: disposal of used sharps, sharps containers, waste disposal, sharps contaminated with cytotoxic drugs, injury prevention, and puncture wound follow-up. A sample reporting form and survey are included.
