Abstract This report provides an introduction to the techniques of risk assessment for manufacturers having duties under the Control of Industrial Major Accident Hazards (CIMAH) Regulations (see CIS 89-1436) of the United Kingdom. Guidance is given on sources of information on the methods used to identify sources of major accidents and assess their likelihood of occurrence and potential consequences. The general approach to risk assessment and the linking together of the various models is also outlined.
