Abstract This general introduction to high frequency sounds defines the phenomenon and explains the units of measurement. Common occupational sources of exposure are given with their corresponding typical frequency levels (in kilohertz) and output power (in watts). The health effects of ultrasound exposure and methods of control are also included. Various international exposure limits are provided in a chart.
