Abstract |
Acute inhalation exposure to toxaphene has been reported to cause stimulation of the central nervous system leading to convulsions and sometimes loss of consciousness. Several cases of fatal and nonfatal poisoning have been reported following ingestion of toxaphene or toxaphene-contaminated food; death is due to respiratory arrest following convulsive seizures. Long-term exposure can also result in neurological effects. Available evidence suggests that adequate doses of toxaphene can cause cancer in laboratory animals and may have a carcinogenic effects in humans. Glossary. |
