Abstract The principal signs and symptoms of acute overexposure to EGBE and EGBEA are irritation of the eyes, nose and throat, drowsiness, nausea, shaking and weakness. Repeated exposure may damage the bone marrow, blood cells, kidneys and liver. This document presents recommendations for a standard covering exposure limits, monitoring, labelling, protective equipment, information of workers, engineering controls and work practices, hygiene and record keeping. Subsequent chapters cover: properties, production and potential for exposure; effects of exposure; sampling and analytical methods and medical and biological monitoring; existing occupational health standards; correlation of exposure and effects; methods for worker protection; research needs.
