Abstract From 1960 to 1988, the absolute numbers of fatal and non-fatal accidents in Czechoslovakian industry decreased by almost 1/2, and the accident rate per 100 workers by almost 2/3. The Federal Ministry of Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering (FMHSE), which represents about 17% of the workers in the country, is responsible for high-risk occupations. Although the rate of injury in the enterprises under the jurisdiction of the FMHSE has been and remains higher than in the workforce as a whole, the numbers and rates of accidents have decreased in parallel with the decrease for the industrial sector as a whole. Tables show the evolution of accident rates for various time periods.
