Abstract This guidance note looks at a classification system for the identification of pipes, that uses colour to distinguish the hazards or purpose of their contents. Other uses of colour include marking restricted areas, identifying physical hazards, separation of work areas, vehicle visibility and indicator lights or buttons. Factors to be considered in colour selection are outlined, together with requirements for personnel training.
