Abstract Cyanide compounds with high, moderate and low toxicity are listed along with sources in the workplace. The behaviour of cyanide in the body and symptoms of cyanide poisoning are described. First aid measures are outlined including administration of oxygen, inhalation of amyl nitrite and artificial respiration. Medical treatments using various antidotes are also described.
