Abstract |
This data sheet gives an explanation of how static electricity arises and lists some common sources and control measures. The main hazard is the discharge of an arc in a flammable or explosive atmosphere, with the most serious problems arising from the transfer and dispensing of flammable liquids. The following control measures are described: bonding and grounding, humidification, ionisation of air, static collectors, use of additives (as in fuels). Instruments used to detect levels of static potential are listed and the relevant Canadian legislation is outlined. |
