Abstract IARC final classification: Diesel engine exhaust is probably carcinogenic in humans (2A); gasoline engine exhaust is possibly carcinogenic in humans (2B). In the 15 aromatic nitro compounds present in exhaust fumes and evaluated separately, 6 are possibly carcinogenic in humans (2B) and the others are not classifiable as to their carcinogenicity (3).
