Abstract Probabilistic safety analyses are used to detect faults during construction of nuclear power plants or upon completion. Recent developments point to their additional use for operation optimisation. Risk detection models used for this purpose in the U.S.A. are programmed, for instance, to determine the effects of system changes or improvements.
