Abstract |
By January 1990, legislation will be introduced in all EC member states harmonising each country's standards for the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to noise at work. This article looks beyond 1990 to a time when new noise criteria are being proposed for manufacturing industry, based not upon hearing conservation alone but also upon the specific need of the employee to concentrate, resolve on-the-spot problems, and be able to talk comfortably to other employees when adjacent to noise-producing equipment; the overall objective being to improve productivity levels on the shop floor. |
