Abstract Presentation of a new Swedish research project concerning possible health effects of electromagnetic fields and spark discharges on exposed workers. Ca. 900 newly employed workers at different electrical powerplants will undergo health examinations, with particular attention paid to fertility and reproduction, the nervous system, subjective symptoms and haematology. The examinations will be carried out at different times over a 10 year period. A systematic measurement of the electric and magnetic fields and spark discharges will be carried out as well as an evaluation of relevant chemical factors. The work environment as a whole will be evaluated under controlled conditions. Results will be reported continuously over the period. The questionnaire forms which will be used in the study are appended.
