Abstract The clothing types, permeation theory, and selection of protective clothing based upon permeation data are described. Other factors in the selection process, such as size, dexterity, cut resistance, tear resistance, cost, and heat stress, are discussed. Temperature, thickness, and mixture considerations and their effect on the permeation process are also discussed. Recommendations are made regarding selection and use criteria.
