Abstract An anthropometric survey was carried out in Egypt in the period between June 1982 and March 1983. A set of 44 body dimensions were taken from a sample of 4960 Egyptian female subjects, age range 20-65 years. The subjects were selected randomly and covered all socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic groups. A specially designed portable anthropometer and four other traditional instruments were used throughout the survey. Findings and data from the survey are presented in a format usable as a reference by designers and engineers. The results show that there are significant differences in the body build, dimensions and proportions between Egyptian women on one hand, and European and American women on the other.
