Title The development and application of algorithms for generating estimates of toxicity for the NOHS data base
Bibliographic information National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Centers for Disease Control, Robert A. Taft Laboratories, 4676 Columbia Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45226, USA, Jul. 1986. 96p. 35 ref. Appendices.
Abstract Four algorithms were developed to provide estimates of LD50 (oral, rat), mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, and teratogenicity. The models were tested against available data, then applied to substances in the National Occupational Hazard Survey (NOHS). The estimates are useful for assessing toxicity where little or no data are available. They contain a certain degree of unavoidable error and are intended only for rank-ordering a list of compounds according to relative toxicity or as a part of an overall process of selecting, testing, and evaluating chemical compounds for toxicity.
