Abstract Rates of occupational mortality and morbidity are increasing in the agricultural sector mainly because of the gradual replacement of human labour by machine and the extensive use of pesticides. The various aspects of the impact of technology changes on the safety and health of farm workers are reviewed and recommendations are made, specifically regarding the use of pesticides.
