Abstract Most cases of dermatitis due to glutaraldehyde (GTA) occur in hospital staff, dentists and dental assistants, and workers in radiology. Tests exist for the differentiation of allergy and irritation. There seems to be no cross-allergy between GTA and formaldehyde, but contact with a product containing both substances can result in a false positive reaction to GTA if the subject is allergic to formaldehyde. People allergic to GTA can be intolerant of tanned leather and drugs containing GTA.
