Abstract Nonauditory illness due to noise seems to be more frequent than a compensable degree of hearing loss. A risk of illness is induced by vibration transmitted to the hand, arm and spinal cord. Approximately 1% of forestry workers contract a compensable occupational disease. Carbon monoxide from exhaust gases reaches higher concentrations only when the wind is still in low, dense growths. Injuries by power saws occur most frequently during trimming and felling and affect primarily the hand and lower extremities.
