Abstract Anisole, a solvent used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, had an LC50 of 3021mg/m3 in experiments with mice; no lethal concentration could be established for rats. The compound was primarily an irritant and narcotic, although dystrophic changes were found in the livers of experimental animals. Human volunteers exposed to 200mg/m3 experienced buring in the throat, irritation of the eyes and a foreign taste in the mouth. A MAC of 5mg/m3 is recommended.
