Title Cases of acute intoxication of chemical etiology in beet growers
Original title Slučai ostryh intoksikacij himičeskoj ėtiologii u sveklovodov [in Russian]

Abstract The insecticide hexachlorocyclohexane was responsible for acute intoxication of persons who had been weeding sugar beets. The intoxication was facilitated by local conditions (high humidity and air temperature, rain, flat terrain, little wind, active evaporation of the pesticide from the soil). Several measures for protecting beet growers are recommended, among which the most important is the mechanisation of sugar beet cultivation, so as to reduce or eliminate manual work.
