Title Visual display units and risk of seizures
Bibliographic information 27 Apr. 1985, Vol.1, No.8435, P.991. 5 ref.
Abstract This letter to the editor provides evidence and explanations for the statement that visual display units (VDUs) are much less likely to cause epileptic seizures in photosensitive subjects than does television. The evidence is that photosensitive subjects, 40% of whom have epileptiform EEG discharges when viewing black-and-white television, do not have them when viewing VDUs. The explanation is that in VDUs flicker is reduced and the alternating linear raster pattern is usually absent.
