Abstract The cardiovascular systems of 626 workers aged 20-45 and with a length of service of 10 years in the machinery industry were examined. After 2 years of employment, early cardiovascular function changes (hyperkinetic circulation, systolic hypertension, myocardial hyperdynamia) were found in workers exposed to low-intensity occupational factors (noise, vibration, chemical substances) associated with monotonous assembly-line work. After a length of service of 2-5 years, adaptation to work led to the elimination of these desorders. When the length of service exceeded 5 years, the tolerance of the heart to physical load was decreased in 52.5% of the workers, there was myocardial hypodynamia in 41%, and the mean value of dynamic pressure was increased in 30%. All these disorders may be considered as a breakdown of adaptation and a development of a pathological process.
