Abstract This report, prepared by the Ad-Hoc Risk Assessment Group of the Oil Companies' International Study Group for Conservation of Clean Air and Water in Europe (CONCAWE), provides an overview of methodologies which can supplement risk management practices with particular reference to major hazards. Aspects covered: hazard analysis, risk assessment and the causes of incidents; management of risk; analytical procedures; assessment of the consequences; practical applications; conclusions and recommendations. A glossary provides definitions of the technical terms used.
