Title The effect of relative humidity on the noise attenuation of foam earplugs

Abstract 5 brands of earplugs were tested. The variables measured were: dry weight, percent moisture content (<5%, 50%, 80% relative humidity) and noise attenuation. Attenuation was measured with a Knowles electronic manikin for acoustic research (KEMAR). Moisture content and relative humidity had significant but very small effects on attenuation (▒2%). Some of the earplugs were difficult to insert at high relative humidity.
