Abstract This directive is mostly based on the "Guidelines for training in the packing of cargo in freight containers", published jointly by the IMO (International Maritime Organisation) and the ILO. It contains: Dutch and international regulations on the transportation of hazardous substances; labelling and warning signs (particularly for the loading of dry ice); rules for packing in containers (visual inspection, stowage of parcels; special rules concerning explosives, compressed gases, flammable liquids, radioactive substances); labelling, sealing and certification of loads; loading and stowage on container carriers of containers holding hazardous substances (placement and separation of containers); individual protective equipment.
